Reflections and questions about agriculture

In Deuteronomy 28:13 we read: "And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God".

1. What does it mean to be the head and not the TAIL?

If that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

  •      "Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field." (Deut. 28:3)

  •       "Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store." (Deut. 28:5)

  • "The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto" (Deut. 28:8)

Throughout history great men have gone before us in feeding their families with simple organic/biological methods, (locally or regionally grown products) as our Creator intended it for all of us!

Whether it is the Law of God or the laws of health that God has placed in our being or the laws that He has established to govern nature, obedience brings blessing.

FROM THE SOIL TO THE TABLE – simple and useful principles:

  • GROW WITH NATURE!

  • SAVE YOUR SEEDS!

  • EAT TO LIVE: nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables

  • LIVE TO GIVE: knowledge, time and means

2. We should think if we are "the head or the tail" while we answer the following deep questions related to the way we do agriculture:

  • Am I a truly, trustworthy STEWARD OF THE SOIL or am I mining God`s resources?

  • Do I support nature to keep a healthy realistic balance in the carbon cycle? Is nature itself my teacher, with its friends and allies?

----  contour farming, terraces, alley farming,

 ----  cover crops, erosion control,

----  loosening hard pan (from equipment and hoe)

  • Do I feed the microbiom world correctly?

---- inoculation, foliar feeds, soil cover at all times!

  • Do I know if my soil life increases, decreases or is dead? (simple home tests are a great help).

  • Do I understand the true principles of soil, plant and human health? (which implies being able to recognize and distinguish between true and false science and also between true and false agendas).

3. LET US CONTINUE STUDYING AND PRACTISING GOD`S PLAN IN AGRICULTURE, TO BE ABOVE AND NOT BENEATH!

  • Christian Farmers and Industries are needed!

"Christian farmers can do real missionary work in helping the poor to find homes on the land, and in teaching them how to till the soil and make it productive. Teach them how to use the implements of agriculture, how to cultivate various crops, how to plant and care for orchards." (Ellen G. White, Christian Service, pg. 129.3).

  • Help people to help themselves:

"By instruction in practical lines we can often help the poor most effectively. As a rule, those who have not been trained to work do not have habits of industry, perseverance, economy, and self-denial." (Ellen G. White, Ministry of healing, pg. 194.5).

"Physical effort and moral power are to be united in our endeavors to regenerate and reform. We are to seek to gain knowledge in both temporal and spiritual lines, that we may communicate it to others. We are to seek to live out the gospel in all its bearings, that its temporal and spiritual blessings may be felt all around us." (Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6,  pg. 189).
